Salween

Longer than the Irrawaddy, and far less dammed.

Source
Tibetan plateau. Nu in China; Thanlwin in Myanmar.
Countries
China, Myanmar, and a Thailand border reach.
Direction
South.
Mouth
Andaman Sea, Gulf of Martaban.
Length
About 2,800 km.
Major tributaries
Few large ones. It is a gorge river.
Delta or estuary
Mouth on the Andaman Sea in Myanmar.
Basin
One of the last long, largely free-flowing rivers of Asia.
One exam fact
In Yunnan it is the Nu, the eastern-most of the usual ‘three’ only if you stand in the right gorge: the three parallel rivers are the Jinsha (Yangtze), the Lancang (Mekong) and the Nu (Salween).

Prelims ask

Nu = Salween. Parallel with Mekong and Yangtze. Not the Irrawaddy.

Mains use

A transboundary gorge river still without a great delta story. Use in elimination, not as a civilisation river.
